big-finish-sketches:

A brief guide to the audio adventures of the Sixth Doctor, and his companion, Dr. Evelyn Smythe.
Big Finish likes its complicated storylines - and one of the largest ones yet involves the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors, an agency called the Forge, and a very scary Word Lord. Since many companions and timelines get all tangled up in this arc, here’s a comprehensive breakdown of what audios to listen to, roughly in chronological order.
Unskippable key episodes are marked in bold!
The Sixth Doctor starts off his first long story arc when he meets his companion Evelyn. Their first episodes together are:
6. The Marian Conspiracy (unskippable)
9. The Spectre of Lanyon Moor
11. The Apocalypse Element
22. Bloodtide
23. Project: Twilight (unskippable)
37. The Sandman
40. Jubilee
43. Doctor Who and the Pirates
Around this time in their travels, they also appear in a trilogy of episodes written by Robert Ross - although these can easily be skipped:
60. Medicinal Purposes
78. Pier Pressure
108. Assassin in the Limelight
Following this, Six exchanges his multicoloured coat for a blue one, and the first part of Evelyn’s story arc comes to a fantastic close in:
I. Real Time
Project: Valhalla
45. Project: Lazarus (unskippable)
57. Arrangements For War (unskippable)
Meanwhile, the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa meet a Dickensian little git named Brewster, who has a number of adventures with and without them:
107. The Haunting of Thomas Brewster
The Three Companions
110. The Boy That Time Forgot
113. Time Reef / A Perfect World
The Boy That Time Forgot is a direct sequel to the TV series episode Earthshock.
A while later, the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn encounter Brewster in a trilogy of stories:
143. The Crimes of Thomas Brewster
144. The Feast of Axos
145. Industrial Evolution
The Crimes of Thomas Brewster also introduces companion Flip Jackson, and includes almost-companion Patricia Menzies, who had previously (from her perspective) had two adventures with the Sixth Doctor and his later companion Charley Pollard: The Condemned and The Raincloud Man.
Meanwhile in the future, the Seventh Doctor and Ace meet a young nurse named Thomas Hector Schofield, a.k.a. Hex:
58. The Harvest (unskippable)
67. Dreamtime
74. LIVE 34
79. Night Thoughts
The Veiled Leopard (available for free!)
82. The Settling
The Harvest, although standalone, is also one third of a cyclical Big Finish trilogy together with The Reaping and The Gathering. This trilogy follows the audio Spare Parts, and The Reaping is a sequel to the TV series episode Planet Of Fire.
The Veiled Leopard, released as a special, takes place during The Gathering and also includes Fifth Doctor companion Erimem, who is introduced in The Eye Of The Scorpion.
The Sixth Doctor and Evelyn have several more adventures together:
84. The Nowhere Place
100. 100
CC 5.05. A Town Called Fortune
Eventually, their story arc reaches a second climax with:
73. Thicker than Water (unskippable)
This last audio is also a key story episode for Hex.
Speaking of Hex, he travels on with Ace and the Seventh Doctor, in:
89. No Man’s Land
92. Nocturne
106. The Dark Husband
115. Forty Five (unskippable)
120. The Magic Mousetrap
121. Enemy of the Daleks (unskippable)
122. The Angel of Scutari (unskippable)
139. Project: Destiny (unskippable)
Forty Five introduces a very important new character, and is also a side story of sorts to the TV series episode The Curse Of Fenric.
Project: Destiny, the last story in this arc, also introduces companion Captain Lysandra Aristedes to the audios. Lysandra had previously appeared in the novel Project: Valhalla.
Directly following Project: Destiny, the story of Evelyn and Hex comes to a close in:
140. A Death In The Family (unskippable)
And that’s all! From this point on, the Seventh Doctor’s story continues with Ace, Hex and Lysandra, starting with Lurkers At Sunlight’s Edge.

the-timewyrm:

Literally just finished listening to “The Marian Conspiracy” a minute ago. This is the first Sixth Doctor audio to feature Evelyn Smythe as a companion. It’s a really fun almost purely historical story full of intrigue involving a plot to assassinate Queen Mary. The banter between The Doctor and Evelyn is adorable and really makes you want to listen to more adventures between these two.
